Despite the name, Dance Movement Psychotherapy (DMP), does not require a prior knowledge of dance. All movement is dance, and all bodies have the capacity to move, meaning it can be accessed and adapted for everyone. We offer child centred DMP, which allows children a safe environment to move, play, explore, make choices, reflect, have fun and more!
DMP can support a child’s ongoing emotional, cognitive and physical development exploring the links between feelings, thoughts and actions. Children may not yet have the words to communicate a feeling or experience and DMP allows them to express themselves non-verbally. DMP equips children with the tools to manage and express thoughts and feelings that feel overwhelming. Sessions will encourage movement play and provide a space for relationship building with self and those in the wider world.

DMP provides an opportunity to explore trauma held in the body which may have been cognitively forgotten or suppressed. It also increases self-confidence, self-awareness and self-esteem. Children will experience physical, emotional, and cognitive shifts as DMP promotes links between actions, feelings, and thoughts. DMP is closely linked with sensory development, sensory integration and motor development.
