My name is Sam Smith and I am a qualified Art Therapist. I hold an MA in Art Therapy and I have experience of providing Art Therapy for children that have experienced trauma and teenagers struggling with their school and home lives. I have experience of supporting children on the Autistic Spectrum within an educational and home setting, utilising skills obtained from my degree in Fine Art to provide a creative and dynamic approach to learning. I have also spent time supporting adults with learning difficulties to promote independence and ensure they were able to access community and social events. I attend regular CPD (Continued Professional Development) courses to keep my training up to date.
In order to practice as an Art Therapist, I must be registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).
I am also a member of the British Association of Art Therapist’s and abide by their code of ethics. I have an up to date enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check to work with children, young people and vulnerable adults.
My training is psychodynamically informed, which means I work with the theory of the unconscious and different developmental theories derived from these principles, such as Attachment Theory, which suggests that a child’s relationship with their primary caregiver is vital to their development.
